What is the e-Shram Portal and UAN Card?

The e-Shram portal (eshram.gov.in) was developed by the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India, to create a comprehensive national database of unorganised workers (NDUW). Registered workers receive a digital e-Shram Card containing a unique 12-digit Universal Account Number (UAN) that remains valid for life across India.

The e-Shram registration connects workers directly with social security welfare schemes, accidental insurance cover under PMSBY, and emergency direct cash assistance during national or state emergencies.

Who is Eligible for e-Shram Registration?

  • Any unorganised worker aged between 16 and 59 years.
  • Home-based workers, self-employed workers, or wage workers in the unorganised sector including agricultural labourers, construction workers, street vendors, domestic workers, gig and platform workers, auto/rickshaw drivers, fishermen, and handicraft artisans.
  • Must NOT be an active member of EPFO (Provident Fund) or ESIC (Employees State Insurance).
  • Must NOT be an income tax payee.

Official Fees & Commercial Service Disclosures

Self-registration on the official Government of India portal (eshram.gov.in) is 100% FREE. The government charges zero registration fees. Odisha eHelp provides an independent, professional digital assistance service for ₹50 to help citizens who do not have internet access, need help with bank account validation, or require photo/card lamination guidance.

How to Update Profile or Download Lost e-Shram Card

If you have changed your mobile number, residential address, occupation, or bank account, you can update your e-Shram profile at any time:

  • Visit eshram.gov.in and click “Already Registered? Update”.
  • Enter your registered mobile number and Aadhaar OTP.
  • Select “Update Profile” to modify specific fields, or click “Download UAN Card” to reprint your digital card.

Common Errors & Solutions

  • Mobile Not Linked with Aadhaar: If your mobile number is not linked to Aadhaar, biometric OTP self-registration will fail. You must visit a local Aadhaar Seva Kendra to link your mobile number first.
  • Bank Account Inactive: Ensure your bank account is active and seeded with your Aadhaar for NPCI Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) credit.
