Understanding Digital Aadhaar Services on myAadhaar
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has digitised essential Aadhaar services through the myAadhaar portal (myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in). How to Download e-Aadhaar Online (Regular & Masked)
An electronic Aadhaar (e-Aadhaar) carries the same legal validity as the original printed physical letter under Section 4(3) of the Aadhaar Act, 2016. Follow these steps to download your copy:
- Go to myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in and click on “Download Aadhaar”.
- Select your identifier: 12-digit Aadhaar Number, 16-digit Virtual ID (VID), or 28-digit Enrolment ID (EID).
- Enter the captcha and click “Send OTP”. An OTP will be dispatched to your UIDAI-registered mobile number.
- Important Choice: If you want to conceal your identity for hotels or private submissions, check the box “Do you want a masked Aadhaar?”. A masked Aadhaar displays only the last 4 digits (e.g.
XXXX-XXXX-1234) while keeping the QR code verifiable. - Click “Verify & Download” to save your password-protected PDF.
How to Open Your e-Aadhaar PDF Password
The PDF file is protected by an 8-character password combining your personal details:
- First 4 letters of your name in CAPITAL letters (as printed on Aadhaar).
- Your 4-digit Year of Birth (YYYY).
- Example: If your name is SURESH KUMAR and your year of birth is 1992, your password is
SURE1992. If your name has only 3 letters like RIA DEVI born in 1995, the password isRIAD1995.
How to Update Your Residential Address Online
If you have shifted residence within Odisha or across states, UIDAI permits online address updates:
- Log in to myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in with your Aadhaar number and mobile OTP.
- Select “Address Update” > “Update Aadhaar Online”.
- Enter your new address including House Number, Street, Landmark, Pin Code, Village/Town, District, and State.
- Select your valid Proof of Address (PoA) document from UIDAI's approved schedule (Voter ID, Passport, Bank Passbook with photo, Electricity bill < 3 months old, or Land Record / RoR).
- Upload a clear scanned copy of your PoA document and pay the official UIDAI fee of ₹50 via UPI, Net Banking, or Debit Card.
- Save your Service Request Number (SRN) to track approval status.
Mandatory Document Revalidation (10-Year Aadhaar Update)
UIDAI advises all residents who enrolled for Aadhaar more than 10 years ago and have never updated their records to upload fresh Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) documents. Doing so prevents disruptions in ration distribution, pension credits, and bank KYC.
