Food Security System in Odisha: NFSA & SFSS

The Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Department, Government of Odisha, distributes subsidized food grains to eligible families under two primary frameworks:

  • NFSA (National Food Security Act): Includes Priority Households (PHH - 5 kg food grains per member/month) and Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY - 35 kg per family/month) supported by the Central Government.
  • SFSS (State Food Security Scheme): Administered and fully funded by the State Government of Odisha to cover vulnerable families who missed inclusion in the NFSA database.

Eligibility Criteria & Exclusion Guidelines

Families residing permanently in Odisha whose annual household income is within prescribed low-income ceilings are eligible. Families owning four-wheelers, government regular salaried employees, or families paying income tax are statutorily excluded.
